Arsenal are seriously considering a major move for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze after formalising their interest, which was reported by football.london in May. The club are believed to have held talks with the player’s representatives to better understand what a deal might look like.
The key aspect of any move however is that this would not represent the fulfilment of the Gunners’ hopes of adding a wide player. While Eze can certainly operate in a wide role, in fact he has featured only 18 times more centrally compared to his appearances on the left for the Eagles, Arsenal still want to add a natural winger to the side.
Rodrygo is considered the dream transfer target, and after being left out of the starting eleven at the Club World Cup by Xabi Alonso, the chances of an exit appear to be realistic. He would be considered quite the coup by Arsenal if they were to sign the Brazilian, akin to that of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil from the Arsene Wenger days.

Add to that the hope of signing a striker, with discussions underway with RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko and Sporting CP for Viktor Gyokeres, if Arsenal added to these three areas with any of the players mentioned, that by itself is wildly impressive. However, considering Arsenal have already wrapped up deals for Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga with further moves for Christian Norgaard and Cristhian Mosquera hoped to be completed soon, the potential for a seven-player summer is very real.
When looking back at the best summer windows in Arsenal’s history, you don’t have to go back far for inspiration. 2023 saw Kai Havertz, David Raya, Jurrien Timber, and, of course, record-breaking Declan Rice arrive in a new benchmark for the club with an expenditure that blitzed anything that came before, and all four signings became established starters in the side.
2021 saw the arrival of six players, including Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Takehiro Tomiyasu, who have also contributed majorly, particularly the former pair. Alexis Sanchez arrived at the club in 2014 and was joined by Danny Welbeck, Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy and David Ospina and set a new record for spending at the club.
It puts into context just what Andrea Berta might achieve in his very first window as sporting director. The potential for seven signings and a new record spend will elevate Arsenal considerably and equip them better, perhaps than ever before in the modern era, to challenge for the major honours.
