Supercomputer predicts Premier League title winners as Arsenal and Man City learn fate

The Premier League title race has been narrowed down to a two-horse race between Arsenal and Manchester City following the weekend's action. Mikel Arteta's side stayed at the top of the table with a 3-2 north London derby win over Tottenham.

The Gunners are on 80 points with three games remaining, with Manchester City behind by one point with a game in hand. City showed their class once again on Sunday by defeating Nottingham Forest.

Their game in hand comes in the middle of May at Tottenham, meaning the title is currently out of Arsenal's hands. "I was praying. There were so many Spurs players in the box," Arteta said after the win.

"It was a really emotional game. A very tough place to come, an incredible atmosphere and a great team to play against.

"3-0 up, you're in control of the game, you come in the second half and we’re dominating the game and creating chances, then an individual error happens that clicks something. It puts a wrong message in your brain.

"Then we started to deal with the situation better, but they got another one and then it’s game on. Then they have the players and the courage to put a lot of players forward. We had to dig in and suffer and react. I'm very pleased with the way the team has done it."

Despite ticking off another fixture and making it three straight wins, Arsenal continue to fall short in the Premier League title race. According to a supercomputer from BETSiE (via bettingexpert.com), City are slight favourites to be crowned champions of England.

The predictor, which simulates the Premier League season 100,000 times, takes into account all match results from last season, pre-season results, and the current season as it progresses. It uses the data to project the season based on both pre-season expectations and xG earned both for and against during the season.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, it isn't good reading. The Gunners have been projected to finish on 86.9 points, slightly below City's 87.7. The Citizens have a win probability of 53.2% above Arsenal's 46.6%.

Liverpool, who have failed to win in their last two games, have a 0.6% chance to all-but rule out another Premier League title win for Jurgen Klopp.
