Ladli Behna Yojana: 1.26 Crore Women Receive ₹1,250, But Ineligible Names May Be Removed Before ₹1,500 Hike
Bhopal, September 12, 2025: The Madhya Pradesh government’s flagship Ladli Behna Yojana continues to provide financial support to women, with ₹1,250 credited today into the bank accounts of 1.26 crore beneficiaries. However, reports suggest that before the scheme’s monthly payment is increased to ₹1,500, the administration plans to conduct a verification drive and remove ineligible names from the list.
Monthly Support to Increase SoonCurrently, women enrolled under the Ladli Behna Yojana receive ₹1,250 per month. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has already announced that from Bhai Dooj this year, the monthly amount will rise to ₹1,500. In a further boost, the government has pledged to increase the benefit to ₹3,000 per month before 2028.
The scheme, which covers more than one crore women across Madhya Pradesh, was introduced to enhance the economic security of married, widowed, and divorced women aged between 21 and 60 years.
Verification Drive to Remove Ineligible BeneficiariesWhile the scheme was launched for needy women, authorities have found that several ineligible women are also availing the benefit. To ensure fair distribution, the administration will soon begin a record verification process for all 1.26 crore beneficiaries.
The records will be cross-checked using the Samagra ID database, and those failing to meet eligibility requirements will be removed from the scheme. Officials have also hinted that in cases where benefits have been wrongly claimed, there could even be a recovery process.
Who Qualifies for Ladli Behna Yojana? The scheme is meant for women who meet the following conditions:
-
Must be married, widowed, or divorced.
-
Should be a resident of Madhya Pradesh.
-
Age must be between 21 and 60 years.
-
Annual family income should not exceed ₹2.5 lakh (approx. ₹20,833 per month).
-
Neither the woman nor her family members should be income tax payers.
-
No member of the family should hold a government job—whether permanent, contractual, or retired—from central or state departments, boards, or local bodies.
Those failing to meet these requirements are not eligible to receive the benefit.
How to Voluntarily Surrender the BenefitThe government has also provided an option for women who realize they are ineligible to voluntarily surrender the scheme benefits. The process is simple and can be completed online:
Visit the official Ladli Behna Yojana portal.
On the homepage, click on “Labh Parityag” (Benefit Surrender).
A form will appear—enter your Samagra ID or Ladli Behna application number.
Fill in the captcha code and click on “Send OTP”.
Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
Tick the self-declaration affidavit box and click Save to complete the surrender.
By doing this, women can avoid possible legal or financial recovery actions if later found ineligible during verification.
Financial Burden on the State GovernmentRunning the Ladli Behna Yojana already costs the Madhya Pradesh government over ₹1,500 crore every month. Increasing the monthly benefit from ₹1,250 to ₹1,500 will further raise the financial burden at a time when the state is already borrowing heavily to fund welfare schemes.
Despite the fiscal pressure, the government maintains that the scheme is a social investment in women’s empowerment, aiming to enhance financial independence and reduce household vulnerabilities.
Bottom LineFor millions of women in Madhya Pradesh, the Ladli Behna Yojana remains a lifeline. However, with a stricter verification process around the corner, only eligible women will continue receiving the enhanced benefits. Beneficiaries who know they don’t meet the criteria are advised to surrender the benefit voluntarily to avoid penalties, while genuine beneficiaries can look forward to an increased monthly payout of ₹1,500 starting this festive season.
