Instagram Live: Instagram has made a big change in its live-streaming feature. Now only those users will be able to go live who have at least 1,000 followers. This new policy has been implemented after the new DM and blocking features launched recently in India. Users who have less than 1,000 followers will still be able to connect with their audience using video calling, but the option of live will be closed for them.
Setback for small creators
This new rule will especially affect small content creators who used to try to connect with their followers by going live. Now they will have to first get 1,000 followers to increase their audience. The company has not given any official reason for this change, but it is believed that this step has been taken to save resources and keep the system light because live streaming consumes heavy servers and data.
An attempt to ban objectionable content?
Many users believe that Instagram wants to stop objectionable or obscene live content through this change. If a user is banned for this type of content, he will have to collect 1,000 followers to go live again. In this way, the possibility of misuse of the live feature can be reduced by bringing it to a responsible and limited scope.
Policy similar to other platforms
This move of Instagram is similar to other social media platforms. For example, at least 50 subscribers are required for live streaming on YouTube, while this number is 1,000 followers on TikTok.
New security features for young users
Along with this, Instagram has also launched two new security features in the DM section for teenage users. Now when a teenager starts chatting with someone, even if both of them follow each other, Instagram will show them some safety tips. These will tell them to look carefully at the other user's profile and think before sharing personal information. Not only this, now the chat window will also show when the other person's account was created (month and year). This will help young users to identify fake or suspicious accounts.
