Pink Smart Cards for Women: Good news for women and girls in Delhi. Traveling on DTC and cluster buses is about to become easier and safer than ever before. The Delhi government has launched the "Pink Saheli Smart Card" for women, girls over 12, and transgender individuals. This card will not only provide free travel but also make travel more convenient.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the launch of this card on Sunday, November 2, and urged women to register online. She said this initiative will provide a new experience of self-reliance and safe travel for Delhi's women and daughters.
What is the "Pink Saheli Smart Card"?
The "Pink Saheli Smart Card" is a personal smart card designed for women and transgender individuals, bearing the cardholder's name and photo. This card will provide free travel on DTC and cluster buses. It also offers recharge and top-up capabilities, allowing it to be used on other transport systems in the future.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta shared a video on the social media platform 'X', saying, "Now, daughters, sisters, and mothers above the age of 12 will be able to travel free and conveniently on DTC and cluster buses."
How to register for the Saheli Smart Card?
If you are a resident of Delhi and above the age of 12, you can apply for this card.
Registration can be done online on the Delhi government's official website and the 'Saheli Card Portal'.
Proof of Delhi residency and an identity card are required at the time of application.
This card will be issued under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework, making it compatible with other public transport modes as well.
Why was this card introduced?
The Delhi government's goal is to encourage women to use public transport more easily and without hassles. This will enhance both safety and convenience. Until now, women were issued pink paper bus tickets, which were prone to misuse and fraud.
The 'Pink Saheli Smart Card' will replace the old ticketing system and ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach only genuine Delhi residents, preventing outsiders from taking advantage.
How has DTC prepared?
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is fully prepared to implement this scheme. Currently, DTC has 44 bus depots that operate 24x7, with 3,266 buses (1,950 electric and 1,694 CNG) plying on the roads.
DTC has invited applications from banks and financial institutions for partnerships to issue this card. This arrangement will be implemented for 5 years.
A major step for women
The 'Pink Saheli Smart Card' will not only make travel easier for women in Delhi, but will also provide them with security, respect, and convenience. This scheme is a major step towards empowering 'Nari Shakti' and making Delhi a women-friendly city.
