IPL 2025: MI announces injury replacement for Vignesh Puthur

Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for Vignesh Puthur, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season due to injury.

 

As per a press release, Puthur has been sidelined due to bone stress reactions in both shins. The team confirmed that Vignesh will continue to stay with the squad and focus on his recovery and rehabilitation with the Mumbai Indians Medical and S&C team.

The young Vignesh Puthur made heads turn with a standout performance against CSK, taking 3/32. Since then, he featured in four more matches, playing a total of five T20 games, and has taken six wickets at an economy rate of 9.08.

 


Hailing from Mallapuram, Kerala, the left-arm wristpinner made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians even before playing senior representative cricket for his state. 

 

He was spotted by MI scouts while playing in the Kerala T20 League. In the debut game against CSK in Chepauk, he dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda on debut in Chennai.

 

 

Who is Raghu Sharma?

 

Raghu Sharma, born on March 11, 1993, in Jalandhar, Punjab, is a right-arm leg-break bowler who has represented Punjab and Puducherry in domestic cricket. 

 

In 11 first-class matches, Sharma has taken 57 wickets at an average of 19.59, with best bowling figures of 7/56. In List A cricket, he has claimed 14 wickets in 9 matches, with best figures of 4/37. Sharma has also appeared in 3 T20 matches, where he has picked up 3 wickets.

 

This will be Sharma's maiden IPL stint, and he joins the Mumbai Indians at his base price of INR 30 lakhs.
