Watch: MI Players, Cameramen Search for Missing Ball in IPL 2025

Send Push

The IPL 2025 game between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday, April 27 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium had a humorous moment that brought back memories of playing cricket in the streets.

This took place during the ninth over when Dhruv Jurel struck a six against the bowling of Karn Sharma. The ball touched near the boundary but then, amazingly, a very unusual scene occurred. Three players of MI along with their vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav and also a few cameramen began searching for the ball - but all of them couldn't locate it even for quite a while. Play had to be halted for several minutes before they could retrieve the ball.

This scene made social media fans laugh, as many recalled their own childhood cricket games when the ball got lost. Even commentator and former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made a joke that RR deserves six additional runs for the missing ball. "There was a rule – if the ball gets lost, you get six runs," Gavaskar chuckled.

As for the game, RR won the toss and decided to bowl first. MI openers Ryan Rickelton (61 off 38 balls) and Rohit Sharma (53 off 36 balls) provided a good beginning with a 116-run partnership. Then Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya both scored 48 runs each off 23 balls, contributing 94 runs for the third wicket. MI scored a huge total of 217/2.

In response, RR made a bad beginning and lost five wickets during the powerplay. They could not get back on track and lost the game badly by 100 runs. With this defeat, is now out of playoff contention. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have secured the top spot with this win, and they are just a win away from getting a 'Q' ahead of their name. With enough games in their hand, they will try to maintain a position in the top two.
