Did Taylor Swift just throw shade at Kanye West with her new album? Swifties think so

Send Push
Taylor Swift has never been one to drop music without a story behind it. When the singer announced her 12th studio album The Life of a Showgirl during an appearance on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, fans immediately began reading between the lines. The sparkly bodice, the watery artwork, and most notably the title all sparked theories that the record might contain a pointed reference to her long-running feud with rapper Kanye West.

According to a report by UNILAD, the new album, set for release on October 3, promises to be more upbeat than her last project, The Tortured Poets Department. But Swifties suspect the glossy reveal was more than just a style shift.

Echoes of Kanye’s The Life of Pablo
The title is what really caught attention. Kanye West released The Life of Pablo in 2016, a record that included the controversial track Famous—the song that reignited his feud with Swift by suggesting he was responsible for her stardom. The lyric, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex… I made that b**** famous,” remains one of the most infamous jabs in pop culture.

Now, Swift’s decision to call her album The Life of a Showgirl is being scrutinized for its uncanny resemblance to West’s title. Fans have also pointed out the orange, glittery font on Swift’s cover, which mirrors the bold orange aesthetic of West’s album artwork.

One user wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Taylor naming her album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ to show up before Kanye’s ‘The Life Of Pablo’ in search results… her mind.” Another added: “Taylor Swift doesn’t do anything by accident. It’s probably not a coincidence her album shows up in searches before Kanye’s.”

Feud that shaped a generation of pop culture
Swift and West’s complicated history stretches back to 2009, when West infamously interrupted her MTV Video Music Award acceptance speech. Since then, the back-and-forth has resurfaced in lyrics, interviews, and social media storms, keeping the feud alive for nearly two decades.

For fans, The Life of a Showgirl feels like Swift reclaiming the narrative. By riffing on West’s iconic album title, she may be subtly positioning her work above his—not just in search rankings, but in cultural memory.

Coincidence or calculated move?
Of course, nothing in Taylor Swift’s career is ever left to chance. She is known for carefully planted Easter eggs and layered storytelling, often designed to reward her most attentive followers. Whether intentional shade or simply artistic coincidence, the parallels with The Life of Pablo have ensured her latest project is dominating headlines before a single track has been released.

So, is this Swift’s way of closing the chapter on a rivalry that has followed her since her teenage years? Or is it yet another clever strategy to keep her audience buzzing ahead of release day? Fans may have to wait until October to find out—but they are already convinced that “The Life of a Showgirl” is more than just a title.
