Higher salary than Prabhas to 7-hour shift to role cut to cameo? Why Deepika Padukone was dropped from Kalki 2898 AD sequel

The makers of Kalki 2898 AD officially announced that Deepika Padukone will not be part of the much-anticipated sequel to the film starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan. The news, shared on social media by the production house Vyjayanthi Movies, left fans curious and eager to understand the exact reasons behind her exit from the project.

Why Deepika Padukone is not a part of Kalki 2898 AD sequel?

Deepika Padukone’s removal from the sequel comes just as she was preparing for her comeback after embracing motherhood. The latest news is sort of a surprising setback in her career. While the official announcement did not specify the reasons, Vyjayanthi Movies hinted at issues related to the actress’s "commitment" to the project, which sparked widespread speculation.

According to reports from Bollywood Hungama, one of the main reasons behind Deepika’s exit was her demand for a major increase in her acting fees. The sources claim that she asked for a "25 percent hike" compared to what she was paid for the first part of the film. This increase reportedly made her fee higher than that of the film’s lead actor, Prabhas, which raised concerns among the producers.

In addition to the salary hike, Deepika is said to have requested strict limits on her working hours, insisting on shooting only "seven hours a day". Given that Kalki 2898 AD is a VFX-heavy film, longer and more flexible shooting schedules are usually required.

The producers reportedly tried to reach a compromise by offering perks such as a luxury vanity van and other comforts, hoping to convince Deepika to agree to longer shoot hours. Another point of contention reportedly involved Deepika’s entourage, which is said to include nearly 25 people. Her team allegedly demanded five-star hotel accommodations and full reimbursement for food during the shoot, which the producers found excessive.

However, some of the reports suggest that the situation may have been aggravated by changes in the film’s script. According to India Today, Deepika’s role in the sequel was drastically reduced and nearly turned into a cameo. The makers reportedly informed her of this change only a few days before shooting was scheduled to begin. Feeling sidelined, Deepika’s team decided to part ways with the project.

Interestingly, these kinds of conflicts are not new for Deepika. Similar issues reportedly happened during her earlier collaboration with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga for the film Spirit, which also stars Prabhas.

On Deepika Padukone's upcoming project

Despite all the rumours and reports circulating online, Deepika Padukone has not yet issued any official response or clarification regarding her exit or the allegations made against her.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Deepika Padukone is currently gearing up for Atlee's next project with Allu Arjun. The actress is going to share the screen for the first time with Pushpa actor.
