A four-year-old innocent girl died in a road accident in Karnataka's Mandya city on Monday. The accident took place when the traffic police stopped the girl's parents during checking.
There was a lot of anger among the public after the incident and people took to the streets to protest. The police have suspended three Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) in this case.
The girl, named Hrithiksha, was being taken to a hospital in Mandya by her parents on a motorcycle. The girl was bitten by a dog in their village, Maddur taluk, and needed immediate treatment. According to the police, the parents were in a hurry so that the girl could get medical help as soon as possible.
Traffic police stopped him for not wearing helmet
Mandya Superintendent of Police, Mallikarjuna Baldandi, said that the girl's parents were not wearing helmets, due to which the traffic police stopped their motorcycle. When the parents told that they were taking their daughter to the hospital for treatment of dog bite, the police let their motorcycle go. But then another vehicle hit their motorcycle, due to which the girl fell from the motorcycle.
At that moment, a truck coming from behind crushed Hrithikshha. The girl suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding. Police have registered a case in connection with the accident.
Public outrage and police action
After the accident, the parents of the girl and the local people protested at the spot with the dead body of the girl and demanded justice. The public accused the police of ignoring the emergency situation and insisting on enforcing the rules, due to which an innocent child lost his life. Due to the protest, there was a jam on the roads, which was later calmed down by the police.
The police assured the protesters that action will be taken against the guilty policemen. The Superintendent of Police said, "We have suspended three ASIs in this case." The public says that this accident happened due to the negligence of the police and they are demanding strict action in this case.
