Jack Grealish told to turn his back on Pep Guardiola for good to save England chances

Jack Grealish has been told to turn his back on Pep Guardiola for good. Because that will give the England reject the best possible chance of being involved in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad.

That's the view of former Everton and Chelsea star Pat Nevin, who reckons Grealish would be making a mistake going back to Manchester City once his loan deal with the Toffees ends in June.

Grealish has been a revelation for David Moyes's men, and scored a last-gasp winner to help them sink high-flying Crystal Palace last weekend. And Nevin has told BetWright that Grealish should look to make his move to Everton permanent.

Nevin said: "I'd be delighted if Thomas Tuchel picked Jack Grealish for the World Cup. If I was in Jack's position, I’d maximise my chances of being selected for the national team by staying at Everton.

"He’s guaranteed game time, been given creative freedom and isn’t drowned out by other star players in the side.

"He can flourish in David Moyes’ team - and I think that’ll put him in a good position to be picked for England.

“Sometimes, a move to a big club doesn’t work out or suit everyone, and I think that has what’s happened in Jack’s case, rather than him lacking the skill or ability.

"I wouldn’t be surprised if Grealish was called up for the World Cup, but he plays in the toughest position to get picked for England.

"Behind the striker, there’s about nine players in the queue that can play across the attack.

"It’ll be hard for him to get his name above theirs on the team sheet, but he’s got a far better chance of doing that at Everton, rather than Manchester City.
