Manchester City are ready to hand Ballon d’Or winner Rodri a new contract.
The Spanish midfielder has been negotiating with the club about a new deal for almost a year but when he ruptured a cruciate ligament in September.
City’s medical team have been astonished by the rate of Rodri’s recovery and he is now set to play a big part in the Club World Cup after returning to action as a substitute in the penultimate game of the season.
It’s expected that the 28-year-old will sign a new deal to reflect his importance to the club and his status as being recognised as the ’s top player.
Rodri has two years left on his current £200,000-a-week agreement. The new package will keep him in Manchester until 2029 and catapult him through the £300,000-a-week barrier to become City’s second-biggest earner behind .
