They decided to book an early scan at six weeks, where they discovered they were expecting twins. The doctor told the couple Olivia admitted she never considered she could have twins and was "totally flabbergasted" by the news.
They couldn't contain their excitement and told their family and friends on Christmas Eve that they were expecting to soon become a family of five. Two weeks later, went for another scan to check the smaller baby was growing. However, they were blindsided by devastating news that they had lost one.
"It was obviously, as you can imagine, we felt blindsided,” she says. “I first of all, didn't expect to have twins and then I really didn't expect to lose one. It's because I was so worried and so anxious about having twins because we don't have the best success rate of twins in our family history.”
“So, I was already really nervous and then for it to happen, it was just… all my fears came true. It was just a really hard thing to navigate."
Now, as she enters her third trimester with just one baby girl on the way, she’s embracing every moment - despite the anxiety that naturally comes with it. Speaking exclusively in conjunction with the Redwings campaign, she says: “It just felt like every day was touch and go, even though it probably wasn't. I was probably fine. For a good couple of months, I just had a fear that I would lose her as well.”
“I’m trying to soak it all in because I know I won’t do this again,” she says. “Like that part of my life is over.”
The couple, who married in 2018 after meeting on Love Island two years earlier, are already parents to two-year-old Abel, who they welcomed in 2022 – a spirited toddler who's picked up a few choice words from mum. “The other day I called him a ‘sucker’ while we were playing,” Olivia laughs. “Now he says it to everyone. It is my fault… but at least there’s not an F at the front of it!”
When she’s not juggling pregnancy and toddler chaos, - and is currently named an official Ambassador for Redwings Horse Sanctuary. It’s a full-circle moment for the star, who first visited Redwings as a “pony-obsessed little girl” and now brings her own young family to their centre near her home in Essex.
“Everyone knows I’m horse mad. Abel’s just starting to ride – and Alex is learning too! Abel has got a pony, like an adoption pony there. So we go and visit and you can go to see them on their birthday, and it's just such a lovely day out."
Whether it’s motherhood, mental health, or mini cobs called Sausage - Olivia is keeping it real, one sucker at a time.
