Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin assured the Muslim community of his party’s continued support, speaking on issues ranging from the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and Waqf Act amendments to the ongoing Palestinian crisis. Addressing an event marking the 1,500th birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, Stalin attacked the BJP-led central government and accused the AIADMK of “betrayal” on key issues concerning Muslims.
“DMK Will Protect Muslim Rights”Stalin said the DMK had always stood by the Muslim community and would continue to do so:
“If Muslims face any problem, the first party to come to their aid will be the DMK. We were the party that opposed the CAA with genuine friendship.”
He recalled how the AIADMK supported controversial central policies such as the CAA and triple talaq law, which led to senior leaders like Anwar Raja leaving AIADMK and joining the DMK.
Attack on Waqf Act AmendmentsThe CM highlighted the role of the DMK and other parties in challenging the Centre’s amendments to the Waqf Act, which he said could have undermined minority rights.
“It was only through our legal battles that the Supreme Court stayed key provisions of the BJP government’s amendment,” he said.
Stalin also accused the AIADMK of staging a “drama” on the Waqf issue while quietly siding with the BJP.
“Stop Atrocities in Palestine”Expressing concern over global issues, Stalin spoke about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza:
DMK’s Welfare Schemes for Muslims“The atrocities against Palestinians must end immediately. The central government must take concrete steps to address this.”
Listing initiatives of his government, Stalin mentioned:
-
3.5% internal reservation for Muslims under the BC category.
-
Inclusion of Urdu-speaking Muslims in the BC list.
-
Creation of a Minority Welfare Board.
-
Establishment of an Urdu Academy.
-
Construction of a new Haj House near Chennai airport.
He also noted that Prophet Muhammad’s teachings had been included in the school curriculum, as requested by Muslim leaders.
Without naming him, Stalin targeted AIADMK chief E. Palaniswami, saying:
“You know who said the CAA would not harm anyone. You also know under whose rule Muslims protesting against the CAA were lathi-charged.”
Calling the AIADMK’s stand on Muslim issues opportunistic, Stalin urged the community to boycott those supporting BJP’s ‘dictatorial and undemocratic’ politics.
