Barcelona are reportedly already in discussions with Manchester United over the future of Marcus Rashford. Currently on loan at Barcelona, Rashford has been making waves in La Liga after falling out of favour with United head coach Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. The 28-year-old forward has scored five goals and provided seven assists in just 13 appearances across La Liga and the Champions League.
Barcelona have a £28million option to buy Rashford - a figure significantly lower than the £40m United would demand from other interested clubs. Despite having over two years remaining on his contract, Rashford's future at United seems uncertain. As we edge closer to the New Year, it is reported that Barcelona are already planning for the end of Rashford's loan spell.
A second loan is deemed unlikely, but Spanish outlet Sport reports that the Catalans are working to 'outline an agreement' with United. Following further talks, they will decide whether to activate the buy clause.
At present, the club are reportedly leaning towards saying yes. However, Rashford's contract and salary remain the main sticking points, with one possibility being a long-term deal on reduced wages.
Reports also suggest that Rashford's representatives have already held talks with Barcelona and are 'willing' to reach an agreement running until the summer of 2030. Rashford himself has expressed a desire to stay at Barcelona going forward.
"I am really enjoying my time in Spain; the weather is the best," he said. "[It's been] A very big change.
"I'm learning every day, I'm enjoying it a lot. I hope to be here for a long time. I get along very well with Roony [Bardghji], also Jules [Kounde] or Frenkie [de Jong].
"It's a team in which we all mix. We are united. The team is fantastic, I just have to be in the right position. I'll keep trying to do this. We have to keep it up to be our best version. We have a lot more to do this season."
