Chelsea were held to a shock 2-2 draw by Qarabag in Azerbaijan on Wednesday evening, with the visitors unable to secure a winning goal. Estevao Willian set Chelsea off in Baku with a superb finish after being assisted by his Brazilian compatriot Andrey Santos. However, Qarabag levelled the score later in the first half when Leandro Andrade capitalised on some sloppy defending to fire in the rebound after Camilo Duran hit the post.
Qarabag then took the lead shortly afterwards, with Marko Jankovic converting from the penalty spot after Jorrel Hato was deemed to have handled the ball in his own box. Early into the second half, Chelsea equalised thanks to Alejandro Garnacho, who made an immediate impact with one of his first touches.
Below, the Chelsea stars in Azerbaijan are rated out of 10...
Robert Sanchez - 6
Made his second Champions League appearance of the season. Couldn't do anything about the goals.
Reece James - 6
Started at right-back for the Blues. Was given a real test against a number of dangerous Qarabag attackers.
James, however, performed well in one-on-one battles.
Tosin Adarabioyo - 5
Returned to the side in Baku. Was caught out for the equalising goal but that wasn't entirely his fault.
Tosin shouldn't have been put in that position in the first place. He wasn't terrible, but he wasn't great either on the night.
Jorrel Hato - 3
A rare chance to see the Dutchman in the centre-back position. He was outdone by a long ball bounce and found himself grappling with Duran.
The Qarabag forward got the better of Hato, who was far too feeble, leading to the hosts' equalising goal. He needs to show more strength in such situations.
Moments later, he was at fault again; losing possession and then handling the ball, resulting in a penalty for Qarabag.
Marc Cucurella - 6
He made a vital interception within his own six-yard box in the first half, preventing a significant opportunity for Qarabag. Excellent game comprehension from Cucurella.
Romeo Lavia - N/A
Back in the squad after a brief stint at Tottenham, but his night ended in less than five minutes. He pulled up early and was substituted for Moises Caicedo.
Andrey Santos - 7
Following his heroics at Wolves a week ago, Santos was given the nod to start in Baku. Another assist for the Brazilian, setting up his compatriot Estevao to give the Blues an early lead.
Unlucky to be one of those substituted at half-time.
Estevao Willian - 8
His second Champions League start. His second consecutive goal as well.
A superb finish after being set up by Santos. Estevao is getting better with each match.
Three goals in his last three starts. What else does the 18-year-old need to do to secure a Premier League starting spot?
Joao Pedro - 6
Perhaps the most unexpected player in the starting lineup due to his fitness issues. He played a key role in Estevao's goal, cleverly setting up Santos with a first-time pass.
However, he could be more assertive in front of goal.
Jamie Gittens - 6
Earned his place in the starting XI after recent performances. Showed promise early on and was involved in many of Chelsea's best moments.
His final product was lacking, which was the only downside to his performance. It seemed somewhat unfair for him to be substituted at half-time.
Tyrique George - 5
George was the main striker for the Blues in Baku. It was a quiet night for him, with few opportunities to score.
Substituted at half-time.
Moises Caicedo (on for Lavia 8') - 6
Entered the game earlier than anticipated. Almost made an immediate impact with his first touch, but his long-range shot went over the bar.
He battled hard throughout.
Enzo Fernandez (on for Santos 46') - 6
Came on at half-time. He immediately showed promise and was involved in several attacking moves for the visitors.
However, his performance declined as the second half progressed.
Liam Delap (on for George 46') - 7
Had something to prove following his red card last week. Demonstrated excellent forward play on the halfway line to set up Garnacho, who finished brilliantly.
Made some excellent off-the-ball runs, but his teammates are not yet on the same wavelength as Delap.
Alejandro Garnacho (on for Gittens 46') - 7
Garnacho made an immediate impact with a superb left-footed finish from a tight angle, thanks to Delap's assist.
Facundo Buonanotte (substituted for Joao Pedro at 71') - 6
He came on and took up the No. 10 role but sadly couldn't make much of a difference in Azerbaijan.
He narrowly missed with a decent strike at 85 minutes.
