Fishermen made a horrifying discovery in a UK seaside town as police were called with reports of a human skull in a carrier bag. The grim discovery was made at the Man and Boy statue at Brixham Harbour in Torbay, Devon, last Thursday. Police rushed to the scene at Kings Quay after the bag containing what appeared to be bone was found. It was later confirmed to be a human skull.

Devon and Cornwall Police said initial inquiries suggested the skull had been brought to shore and left in the plastic bag by fishermen. The force also confirmed that the bone was being examined by specialists as part of a wider investigation that is currently underway.

A spokesperson said: "We were called at 3:40pm on Thursday, October 9, to Kings Quay in Brixham after a carrier bag containing what appeared to be bone was found at the base of the Man and Boy statue.

"The bag has been seized, and following examination, the bone is confirmed to be a human skull. It will now be examined by specialists to confirm its age.

"Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances, but enquiries suggest that the skull was located by fishermen out at sea and had been brought to shore."

"Anyone with information which may assist our investigation is asked to contact police on 101 quoting 50250262056."

Brixham Harbour boasts a large fishing fleet, fish market and viewing platform in a picturesque corner of south Devon and has long been a popular spot for stay-cationers and angling enthusiasts.
