A section of the motorway has been closed in both directions following a crash, with emergency services - including the air ambulance - on the scene. Following a collision on the major UK near Reading, both the eastbound and westbound carriageways have been shut between junctions 8 and 11, according to police.
National Highways said motorists could be delayed for around 45 minutes. Thames Valley Police is advising people to avoid the area. A spokesperson from Thames Valley Air Ambulance said: "We can confirm that our helicopter and a critical care response vehicle were dispatched to provide advanced critical care at an incident on the M4 today."
