Major 'too woke' superhero blockbuster cancelled by Warner Bros

This weekend, James Gunn's Superman kicks off the newly rebooted DC Universe, Warner Bros' answer to Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Yet after Henry Cavill's tenure ended, new Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav shut down a new version for being "too woke."

A Black Superman script penned by Ta-Nehisi Coates had been in the works with a civil rights era setting.

Instead, Gunn was hired to head up the DCU and direct the new Superman movie starring David Corenswet.

Nevertheless, the Wall Street Journal reports he may still try and make the movie in the future. Meanwhile, Gunn has come under fire over his comments on the new Superman movie being about immigrants.

Superman is out now in cinemas.
