Netflix has just added an underrated Oscar-nominated film starring Mary J Blige.
Released back in 2017, Mudbound delves into the lives of two World War II veterans - one white and one black - as they return to rural Mississippi and grapple with racism and PTSD in their own ways.
"[The film] tells the tale of a bond between a white and black family forged by the hardships of farm life in the Mississippi Delta during the Jim Crow era," reads the official synopsis.
"That bond takes a fateful turn when the eldest sons of each family return from the horrors of WWII."
The film is helmed by director Dee Rees, who also penned the screenplay alongside Virgil Williams. The narrative is adapted from Hillary Jordan's acclaimed 2008 novel of the same name, reports .
As well as Mary J Blige, the star-studded cast also includes Carey Mulligan, Garret Hedlund, Jason Clarke, Jason Mitchell, Jonathan Banks, and Rob Morgan.
After its premiere at Sundance Film Festival in 2017, Mudbound saw a limited theatrical release, before earning critical acclaim and several award nominations.
At the 75th Golden Globe Awards, Mudbound received nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song.
The film went on to earn four nods at the 90th Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Song, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography - which made Rachel Morrison the first woman to be nominated in the category.
With a stellar 97% critic's score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 202 reviews, Mudbound is a must-watch now streaming on Netflix.

Critics have heaped praise on the film for its powerful narrative and "excellent" acting.
"In its own earnest way, it is very moving," wrote The Independent, while Empire Magazine said: "With great performances across the board and a socially relevant story, Mudbound will resonate long after the credits roll."
The Financial Times added: "The shape of modern America is glimpsed behind the drama in this graceful, devastating film," with Metro similarly saying: "Dee Rees's Deep South melodrama is an instant classic."
Rolling Stone concurred, stating: "Dee Rees's story of one black and one white family struggling in the WWII-era South is a fiercely intimate epic that couldn't be more timely. Mary J Blige should be on every Oscar list for best supporting actress."
