The Met Office has issued a Yellow warning for rain in just one region of the UK on Tuesday. Following a couple of days of wet weather, much of Cumbria will be vulnerable to flooding with even heavier rainfall forecast until 11am tomorrow.
Residents are being urged to prepare with an emergency kit ready in case of an emergency or a power outage.
Many areas within the warning zone could see an additional 30 to 60mm of rainfall, with some particularly prone spots possibly receiving up to 80mm. Residents are being urged to take precautions and prepare for potential impacts.
Having an emergency kit ready is central to staying safe during this period. Essentials include water, non-perishable food, medications, a flashlight, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack.
The Met Office said: "Check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
"People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It's easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items."
Simple steps, such as securing loose outdoor items and ensuring the property is weatherproof, can help reduce potential damage.
Travellers are advised to plan ahead, checking road conditions, bus and train timetables, and allowing extra time for journeys. Spray and standing water on roads could make travel slower and more hazardous.
The Met Office describes the yellow warning as having a medium likelihood and low impact, meaning some disruption is likely, but the effects will generally be limited.
It remains essential to stay informed, as conditions can change rapidly. Updates can be accessed via the Met Office website, app, or social media channels.
Being prepared and having an emergency kit in place gives households the best chance to manage the wet conditions safely and comfortably. Even minor precautions can make a significant difference during periods of heavy rainfall.
