Newcastle United have pulled the plug on William Osula's proposed move to Eintracht Frankfurt, according to reports. They have endured a frustrating window, with several players rejecting the chance to move to St James' Park. Club chiefs have also been dealing with the long-running saga involving Alexander Isak, who is believed to be closing in on a move to Liverpool.

The signing of a striker was among Newcastle's top priorities and they managed to do just that, pulling off a big-money move for Nick Woltemade in the days before the deadline. That deal opened up the chance for Osula to leave on loan, with Frankfurt agreeing a deadline-day move for the young Dane. However, it fell through at the eleventh hour with the Magpies closing the door.

They ultimately chose to keep Osula to give themselves some much-needed cover in attack, according to The Chronicle. If the 22-year-old had departed, Newcastle would have been left with Woltemade as their only senior striker.

Frankfurt were ready and willing to welcome Osula into their squad, but Newcastle's late withdrawal means he will be staying on Tyneside until at least the January window.

The Magpies remain poised to confirm Isak's blockbuster move to Liverpool, which is still expected to go through in spite of the deadline passing. They are due to receive a transfer fee of £125million, setting a new British record.

Newcastle rejected an opening bid of £110m earlier in the window and initially said that Isak was not for sale at any price. The player responded by going on strike, reportedly telling club chiefs that he would never play for them again.

The situation came to a head when Isak released a bombshell statement, claiming that Newcastle had 'broken promises' regarding his future. The Magpies later insisted they had never made any pledges to the Swedish striker.

Liverpool returned to the table with an offer worth £125m in the hours before the deadline, which was reluctantly accepted. He travelled on Monday morning to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of his record-breaking move to Anfield.

Newcastle have also agreed to sign Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, bringing an end to another long-running transfer saga. They are set to pay the Bees around £55m in exchange for his signature, with the 28-year-old completing a medical on Monday.

Eddie Howe had suggested that it was likely to be a busy deadline day for the Magpies, saying over the weekend: "I'd love to do one more player, just to get the full strength that I think we need.

"I don't know what that player looks like, you're not going to get a position out of me, but I'd love to have one more just to give us the strength in depth I think we need."
