An underrated UK city which was once a major fishing port has been crowned for offering the cheapest pints in the country. Hull, with a seafaring history of over 800 years has been named the best place in the country where Brits can grab the cheapest pint for just £3.68.

Hull, officially known as Kingston upon Hull, is a historic city in East Yorkshire that traces its origins back to the late 12th century when monks from Meaux Abbey founded it as Wyke on Hull. Hull is home to around 268,000 residents and sits strategically on the River Hull where it meets the Humber Estuary, just 25 miles from the North Sea. The city boasts a rich cultural landscape, featuring renowned institutions like The Deep aquarium, the Hull Maritime Museum, and Ferens Art Gallery.

A survey by the Finder revealed that the average cost of a pint in the UK in 2025 is now £5.50. The price has increased by 6 percent from an average of £5.17 in 2024.

The survey analysed the 56 cities in which Hull secured the top spot where a beer will cost you £3.68, which is £1.83 less than the UK average of £5.50.

Following Hull, Dundee in Scotland is the second cheapest city to buy a beer, with an average price of £3.96. Wrexham and Newport in Wales and Bradford in the North of England all have an average pint price of £4.

On the pricier side, Brighton is the second most expensive city to buy a beer, charging £6.03 on average. Bath and Winchester are the next most expensive cities, with an average pint price of £6.

Hull's historic sites include Wilberforce House, Hull Old Town, and the iconic Humber Bridge. The city also has a notable music legacy, having produced influential bands such as The Housemartins and Everything But The Girl.

With over 800 years of maritime heritage, Hull's past as a major fishing and whaling port is still evident in its vibrant waterfront and marina.

At present, the city blends its deep historical roots with a modern, creative spirit, offering independent shops, a thriving arts scene, and events like Trinity Live that bring the community together.
