Trump 'claiming credit' for Elon Musk drug allegations leak 'he takes drugs all the time'

Donald Trump has been accused of personally tipping off The New York Timesabout Elon Musk's alleged drug use, according to claims made by controversial biographer Michael Wolff, reports MailOnline.

Wolff, author of the incendiary Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, told The Daily Beast podcast on Wednesday that Musk has become a hot topic in Trump's private conversations this week.

The former president is known for ringing allies and confidants daily - and Wolff says Musk has been a particular focus.

"He's like, calling people to say, 'do you think Elon is crazy?'" Wolff said. "In one of these phone calls - many of them - he was on about, you know, how many drugs he takes: 'He takes drugs all the time. You know that, don't you? You know, The New York Times wrote about it. They said, he takes drugs.'"

Trump's office has been contacted for comment.

Ketamine use

The Times reported during the 2024 campaign that Musk allegedly used ketamine so heavily it caused bladder issues. The article also referenced alleged use of Ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms, and what appeared to be Adderall.

Musk has publicly denied the claims and released a drug test online in response.

In one of his recent calls, Trump reportedly went a step further - taking credit for the story itself. According to Wolff, Trump said: "Actually, we dropped a dime to The New York Times... on Elon's drug taking."

Wolff admitted he couldn't confirm whether someone in Trump's circle actually leaked the details to the paper, but said Trump is "just claiming credit for now."

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung hit back hard, telling the Daily Mail: "This idiot Michael Wolff is either a liar or suffering from dementia due to a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome."

The Times story ran on May 30 - the same day Musk was in the Oval Office with Trump, marking the end of his involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency.

The report's timing proved awkward. Musk was forced to respond to the allegations while seated beside the president at the Resolute Desk.

"Is The New York Times - is that the same publication that's got a Pulitzer Prize for false reporting on Russiagate?" Musk asked. "I think it is."

"That New York Times? Let's move on!" he added, with Trump grinning beside him.

But it took just six days for their once-close relationship to unravel.

Musk reportedly erupted over Trump's support for the so-called "Big, Beautiful Bill," which he felt wiped out all the progress he'd made at DOGE. Since the pair's June 5 public falling out, Musk has threatened to launch a third party and support Republican Rep. Thomas Massie - one of the few lawmakers who voted against Trump's bill.

Trump pollster Jim McLaughlin appeared to mock the idea of a Musk-led third party, quipping: "I think it's the ketamine talking in the middle of the night."

"Trump is the Republican Party right now. He is the conservative movement," he added. "There's not a hankering for a third party with Elon Musk."
