NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have arrested three members of an inter-state robbery gang from Madhya Pradesh who allegedly targeted locked houses across the city, using their skills as locksmiths to carry out a series of burglaries. The accused — Surjeet Singh (41), Anil Singh (32), and Kirtan Singh (24) — are residents of Indore and have prior criminal records, officials said on Thursday.
A large quantity of stolen property, including gold jewellery and nine stolen two-wheelers, was recovered from the trio.
The arrests followed a burglary case reported on April 20 in the Vijay Vihar area, where a victim reported the theft of gold jewellery and ₹50,000 in cash. Police launched an investigation involving CCTV analysis and local intelligence gathering. The breakthrough came when officers traced the suspects to a hotel in Mahipalpur. Over 50 hotels were searched before the gang was apprehended on April 28.
According to police, the gang operated with a set routine: traveling monthly to Delhi, booking a hotel room in Mahipalpur, and conducting burglaries over a two-week period. They would identify locked homes during the day and steal a local two-wheeler at night to carry out their crimes.
“They often hit over 10 houses in a single night before fleeing back to Madhya Pradesh,” a senior officer said.
So far, the gang has been linked to at least 13 house burglaries and nine motor vehicle thefts across areas including Rohini and its adjoining sectors.
Among the seized items were ₹22,000 in cash, 10 gold bangles, two necklaces, nine rings, seven pairs of earrings, four gold chains, and a specialized lock-breaking tool.
Police also revealed that Surjeet Singh has 10 previous cases against him, including under the Arms Act, while Anil and Kirtan Singh have multiple burglary cases registered in Madhya Pradesh. Further investigation is underway.
