Gurgaon: The licence of a Ayurveda doctor in Sonipat, who violated the gender testing laws, has been cancelled. The move was taken on Tuesday to enforce regulations aimed at protecting the girl child, health officials said.
"The licence of the Ayurveda doctor — who violated the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT) Act and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act — was cancelled by the Council of Indian Medicine," director, health services (DHS), Dr Virender Yadav said, adding, "Out of a total of 1,500 MTP centres in the state, 379 MTP centres have been closed and the registration of 16 MTP centres was suspended in the last month."
There is a declining trend in the sale of MTP kits in Haryana, he said and added that the sex ratio of the state up to April 22 is 911 as per the Civil Registration System (CRS) portal.
Drug control officers (DCO) of Sonipat have been issued a show-cause notice for unverified/incomplete reports and not ensuring that MTP kits are to be sold in MTP centres of Haryana, Yadav said. "Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PIGT) tests are to be done only after approval of the competent authority and the outcome of each In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) intervention is to be shared with the concerned civil surgeon on a monthly basis," the DHS said.
Meanwhile, the Haryana health department plans to launch special Beti Bachao Beti Padhao camps on April 25. These camps will be organised by the senior medical officer (SMO) in charge of the concerned community health centres (CHCs) in collaboration with the programme officer (PO) of the women and child development (WCD) department.
The initiative will focus on villages with a sex ratio of less than 700, aiming to raise awareness and promote gender equality. These decisions were made during a meeting of the state task force (STF) chaired by additional chief secretary of health Sudhir Rajpal, in Chandigarh .
The meeting reviewed actions taken from previous sessions and outlined steps to enhance the sex ratio.
