NEW DELHI: With the IPL 2024 gearing up for an electrifying showdown between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday evening, former India pacer Varun Aaron anticipates a fiery atmosphere, especially with the presence of Virat Kohli for RCB and Gautam Gambhir in the KKR dugout.
Aaron, reflecting on the anticipated clash, highlighted the history between RCB's talismanic batter Virat Kohli and Gambhir, recalling their heated exchange during IPL 2023 when Gambhir, now KKR's mentor, was associated with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
"I'm looking forward to the match up outside the boundary line. Gautam Gambhir is going to be at the boundary line right beside the RCB dugout," Aaron shared with TV broadcasters Star Sports. He added, "you know how Virat is, he likes to have some fire all the time, and if he just looks at the KKR dugout, he's just going to be fired up."
Adding to the anticipation, Australian batter Steve Smith, now a pundit in the tournament, expressed excitement for the RCB-KKR showdown.

Smith praised Kohli's stellar performance, including the batting maestro's 77 off 49 balls, in the previous match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The former Australian captain stated, "Yeah, that's a nice battle to look for. The rivalry is not going to be any different. I'm looking forward to it. Virat was outstanding last game, he showed some real ominous signs, and I'm looking forward to that contest tomorrow (at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium)."
