Alijah Arenas , USC commit and son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas , has been discharged from the hospital. He had met with an accident when his Tesla Cybertruck rammed into a tree and caught fire. His family has confirmed that he remains “blessed, resilient, and in high spirits” and has also requested privacy so they can focus on his healing.
Alijah Arenas’ family shares statement on his recoverySharing the update about the promising basketball player, ESPN journalist Shams Charania tweeted on Wednesday, “Five-star USC commit Alijah Arenas has been released from the hospital one week after his serious car crash in the Los Angeles area” and attached the family’s statement along with it.
The statement from the Arenas family read: “We are grateful to share that Alijah Arenas has been released from the hospital and is now resting comfortably under close watch. While his journey to full recovery is just beginning, his spirit remains strong, and he is surrounded by love and support. The Govan and Arenas family are preparing for the road ahead with faith and determination, committed to nurturing Alijah back to 100%. He remains blessed, resilient, and in high spirits.”
It further read: “The family continues to ask for privacy during this time as they focus fully on Alijah's healing and well-being. We thank everyone for the continued prayers, encouragement, and outpouring support.”
Alijah Arenas, 18, was in a coma for a day after the accident last Friday. Good Samaritans rescued him from the burning car and took him to the hospital in time. His family has confirmed he has not suffered serious injuries and is able to walk and talk.

His family had revealed in an earlier statement Alijah’s first words after he came out of the coma. “In a powerful and emotional moment, Alijah opened his eyes and was able to write on a piece of paper that he remembered the smoke and asked, 'Did anyone get hurt?'" the statement read. His family called the rescuer’s act of saving his life and Alijah's incredible will to survive “nothing short of miraculous.” His mother, father, and the entire family have been by his side during this testing time.
