12 people fall prey to food poisoning after eating Shawarma; easy home remedies for treating it

Lip-smacking Shawarma makes for a culinary delight for those who love eating non-vegetarian foods. But what if the same juicy shawarma wrapped in a well-cooked chapati base leads to food poisoning? Yes, you read it right, because it happened in Mumbai, where at least 12 people were hospitalised after consuming chicken shawarma in Mumbai's Goregaon, a civic official said on Sunday.

As per the latest report, 12 people suffered food poisoning after eating shawarma and were hospitalised. The incident occurred at Satellite Tower in Santosh Nagar area of Goregaon (East) on Friday after eating chicken shawarma. The report further said that while nine people were discharged, three others are still undergoing treatment.

The reports said the quality of street side food, chicken shawarma, was not up to the mark that led to the saddening incident.

In a similar incident, as many as 76 students of a private hostel in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida suffered food poisoning and were hospitalised. And before that 80 passengers on the Bharat Gaurav Special train from Chennai fell prey to food poisoning complaining of stomach infections and other complications after eating stale food served on the train.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar in 1 glass of warm water and drink. As per studies, the antibacterial properties of apple cider vinegar are effective in treating foodborne pathogenic bacteria.


Oregano Oil
Add 1 drop of oregano oil to 1 glass of water and consume it. It contains compounds like carvacrol and thymol that have antimicrobial properties that help eliminate the effects of food poisoning.

Thyme Oil
Add 1 drop of oil to 1 glass of water, stir, and consume. It contains compounds like thymol, carvacrol, and linalool that have antimicrobial and antiparasitic properties.

Ginger with Honey
Add 1 inch of ginger and 1 teaspoon of honey to 1 cup of hot water and consume. Raw honey exhibits antimicrobial and digestive properties, while ginger improves the absorption of nutrients.


Garlic
Chew 2-4 garlic cloves for effective results. Garlic is known for its powerful antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties that can treat foodborne pathogens.

Lemon Juice
Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to 1 glass of water and consume. Lemon juice is a rich source of antioxidants that improve digestion and boost overall health.

Basil
It is an herb known for its antimicrobial properties, and it is suggested to consume it with honey to treat food poisoning.

Banana
It is proven to replenish the lost potassium in the body and help alleviate the symptoms of food poisoning. It is suggested to have 2–3 ripe bananas a day to treat food poisoning.
