Kiyan Anthony, son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony , made a stunning debut for the Syracuse Orange on Tuesday night. The 18-year-old helped his team defeat Binghamton 85-48, scoring 15 points along with three rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes off the bench. His confident performance quickly caught the attention of fans and NBA stars alike, including LeBron James , who shared his excitement on social media.
Notably, the veteran NBA superstar, LeBron James, who has been a longtime friend of Carmelo Anthony, was among the first to react to Kiyan’s college debut. The Los Angeles Lakers star reposted the young guard’s stats on Instagram and added a short but powerful message for him.
Reposting ESPN’s post about Anthony James and his stats, James on his Instagram story wrote, “Yessir nephew!!!” It was a proud moment for both the Anthony and James families, marking the start of a new basketball journey for Kiyan Anthony.
Kiyan Anthony carries Carmelo Anthony’s legacy forward at Syracuse
Kiyan Anthony’s debut was more than just a stellar game; it was a moment that connected the family’s generations. Previously, Carmelo Anthony had made history with Syracuse in 2003, leading the team to its first NCAA national championship. He was drafted third overall in the NBA Draft, just behind LeBron James.
20 years later, his son now wears the same colors and carries the same family pride.
Anthony knows that his son faces big expectations, but believes Kiyan is ready to carve out his own identity. “You talk about legacy, and you talk about family dynamics, you talk about passing things on down to your family, to your kids. And this is something that we pass, and we pass the baton to him. And now whatever he does with it, he do with it, and that’s on him”, Carmelo said in an interview with the Daily Orange.
“I think he understood and understands what this really means, as far as putting an ‘S’ on your chest,” the NBA legend added.
Carmelo Anthony, who retired after the 2021-22 NBA season, has been a constant presence at Syracuse games, proudly supporting his son. As Kiyan Anthony begins his college basketball journey, he will look forward to continuing the family legacy and perhaps, one day, following his father into the world’s biggest basketball leagues, the NBA.
