NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Sunday questioned the West Bengal government 's move challenging Calcutta HC order for CBI probe in allegations of land grabbing and sexual assault in Sandeshkhali . It further asked why the government was interested in protecting the accused and the TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh.
The matter has been adjourned till July.
The West Bengal government on Friday had moved the apex court challenging Calcutta high court's decision which directed Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the allegations of land grabbing and sexual assault in Sandeshkhali.
The CBI is investigating the case of attack on Enforcement Directorate officials in Sandeshkhali and has registered three FIRs related to incidents on January 5.
The ED officials had gone to Sandeshkhali to raid the house of Sheikh, who allegedly has close links with arrested former state food minister Jyoti Priya Mallick, in connection with the multi-crore ration distribution scam in West Bengal.
CBI had conducted raids in several locations in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali on Friday. Several arms and ammunition, including foreign-made pistols, were seized.
