NEW DELHI: Supreme Court Tuesday granted interim bail on medical grounds for six weeks to Elgar Parishad case accused Mahesh Raut .
A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Satish Chandra Sharma granted relief after senior advocate C U Singh informed the court that the accused was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and needed specialised treatment which was not available in prison.
"We are inclined to grant medical bail for a period of six weeks," court said. It allowed the plea after noting that Bombay HC had earlier granted regular bail to Raut though that order was later stayed by SC.
