In a shocking development, former Punjab DGP (Human Rights) Mohammad Mustafa has been booked by Panchkula Police in connection with the alleged murder of his son, Aqeel Akhtar, and for criminal conspiracy. The FIR also names his wife and former Punjab minister Razia Sultana, along with their daughter and daughter-in-law.
The case came to light after Aqeel’s neighbour, Shamsuddin, filed a complaint with the Panchkula Police Commissioner, alleging that Aqeel’s death was not natural but the result of a premeditated conspiracy.
According to the complaint, Aqeel’s wife and father were allegedly involved in an illicit relationship, and former minister Razia Sultana was also accused of playing a role in the cover-up.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Mansa Devi police station under Sections 103(1) and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Mohammad Mustafa, Razia Sultana, their daughter, and daughter-in-law.
SIT Formed
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to ensure a fair and evidence-based probe. The team, led by an ACP-rank officer, will investigate all angles.
The Panchkula Police reiterated that the investigation would be conducted with complete transparency, ensuring that no guilty person escapes justice and no innocent individual faces harassment.
Suspicious Death and Video Evidence
Aqeel Akhtar was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his Panchkula residence on October 16. The family initially claimed that the death resulted from a drug overdose.
However, a video dated August 27 later surfaced in which Aqeel alleged that his family members were plotting to kill him. In the same video, he also mentioned the alleged affair between his father and wife, intensifying suspicions around his death.
The Panchkula Police have now launched a full-scale investigation into the case.
