Chennai: Shreyas Iyer, captain of Punjab Kings, has been fined for a slow over-rate during Match 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings.
The match was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday.
According to the IPL Code of Conduct, this offence falls under Article 2.22, which pertains to violations of minimum over-rate standards. Since this was Punjab Kings' first offence of the season, Iyer has been penalised Rs 12 lakh.
Iyer has previously faced similar penalties for slow over-rates. Notably, during the 2024 IPL season, Iyer, as captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, was also fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over-rate in a match against Rajasthan Royals.
The IPL’s Code of Conduct ensures teams maintain a reasonable pace of play. Any breach of the prescribed over-rate results in fines for the captain, with further disciplinary actions possible in the case of repeated offences.
